Saving Energy

It is really important to make sure when we use energy/ electricity it is for a specific purpose and that we are not wasting it.

Ways to save energy

  • Switch the heating system on later in the morning and off earlier in the evening.

  • Close doors to rooms that are not used very often and turn radiators down or off so you only heat the area you are using.

  • Use draught excluders to eliminate draughts around doors and skirting boards.

  • Prioritise use of the shower over a bath. A typical shower uses only 20% of the energy of a full bath.

  • Ensure your hot-water cylinder is properly lagged. A lagging jacket will keep the water hotter for longer.

  • The oven is expensive to use. Where possible use it for more than one item at a time

  • Dry clothes outdoors when possible and make use of a clothes horse indoor

  • Appliances on standby can use up to 20% of the energy that they would use if on. Switch off at night!

Renewable Energy

There are lots of energy providers that use renewable energy from wind turbines, solar panles and hydro-electricity. (generated using waves).
